So, way back when, I got all crafty. I fixed my bumGenius diapers. I made baby doll diapers. And then I made curtains. And I thought I was doing pretty well. I was, in fact, actually proud of myself. My first curtain task was the kitchen.

Plain and simple, yes, but better than bare!

Even better with a valance:

And, finally, tie-backs:

(And, by this time, I had somewhat gotten the hang of how to take pictures of windows. Somewhat.)

Excited with the cuteness of my creations, I started on curtains for the kids’ room.

It only took me a day to finish them. But it got kinda crazy towards the end, with Benjamin crying and clinging to my legs while I tried to measure and iron and sew…

But I finished them! And was so proud! Until I hung them up…

And you know how you can be out picking berries, eating them as you go, and feel like you’ll never be able to stop? And then you bite into one that maybe wasn’t as ripe as it should have been and the shock of its ugliness kills your dream of eating berries all day. You turn and run from the berry patch, searching for something to wash the taste from your mouth.

These were my bad berries:

I wanted to cry.

Josh wanted to take pictures.

I glared at him and stormed out of the room.

I don’t even know how much time elapsed before the wounds afflicted by these rogue curtains healed enough to let me repair the damage. It turns out I had simply sewn one sideways. A date with the seam-ripper and we were all squared away.

(I also pinned down those ridiculous looking loops on the valance that came with our crib set. Muuuuuuuch better, no?)

Then we had company scheduled to arrive and I really felt the rush to finish the curtaining project: I only had one room left. Making sure to only work in relatively stress-free environments, I managed to do these right the first time:

I don’t like that the pictures make them look so drab. They’re a very nice combination of a brightish/pastelish green, blue, and brown stripes. They look better in person.

They still need a valance and tie-backs (the kids’ room curtains need tie-backs as well), but the windows are not naked anymore, at the very least!

And that’s not ALL. Wait til you see what I made this weekend with my mommy!! (Hopefully this will be posted tomorrow, if not, please feel free to get on my case.)
